Not exactly a revolution in Waukesha

Waukesha Mayor Jeff Scrima will face largely the same Common Council next year that he faced this year. Only two aldermen have announced their intention not to run for re-election, Paul Furrer and Rick Tortomasi, and it is only those races that have drawn any new candidates for office so far.

Absent any dramatic change in events between now and January 4th, the deadline for nominating papers, it’s very likely that Waukesha will continue to pursue the application for Lake Michigan water. More importantly, there will continue to be a veto-proof majority on the council in favor of the Great Lakes water plan. (Scrima is still under the false impression that draining Fred Flinstone’s quarry is an option.)

It also means that it is highly unlikely that there will be a movement in the council to replace City Administrator Lori Luther.

If there is any surprise it’s that Alderman Chris Hernandez has not drawn a challenger so far after his vote for the Frame Park stadium upset so many people. Perhaps because the stadium was never built and the city has moved onto other issues any passion to remove Hernandez has cooled.

Life has a way of working these things out in Waukesha.
